The characters certainly wear impractical clothing, and the artist is clearly not above taking advantage of this. Being born and raised here. A modern, darker re-telling of the popular story of The Wizard of Ozthis six-issue comic book series gives us a new, harder edged Dorothy, who is whisked away to the land of Oz and plopped down into the middle of a power struggle jle various characters.
The story is, in broad stokes, the one we’re all familiar with. The artwork has inconsistencies throughout the book. Mar 26, Nikki rated it did not like it Shelves: AmazonGlobal Ship Orders Internationally. Whenever I browse through Netgalley I always get excited to see a new one of these pop up.
Other than that, this can definitely be read as a standalone, especially if you’re familiar with even the first Oz book. Netgalley provided this book to me for free in return for an honest review.
Zenescope’s Joe Brusha and the Problem with Provocative Covers
I found myself looking forward to the next comic for the cover and I found myself immersed into the illustrations in the comic, especially the full page ones; they really did compliment the whole feel and style of the comic and yes, I still have a problem with the damn outfits the women in brusa wear, I mean, seriously Dorothy, you’ve been wearing the same outfit for around 3 days, you’ve been attacked, kidnapped, fought about five battles and still managed to keep shards of your outfit in place enough to cover your dignity.
All in all, this was a quick, fun read, but it doesn’t brushq a long-lasting impression. This is certainly not a problem that’s limited to this book–it’s a common and valid criticism of comics in general. General dickheadery aside, he is nowhere near wrong when he criticizes the Big Two.
The illustrations are generally extremely well done, although there is a continuation of the modern tendency to draw female characters as if trying out for Playboy cartoonist.

Only Toto belongs to the Wicked Witch from the East, which is the reason why she is transported to Oz in the first place. So, I was really excited when I saw this comic!
This hasn’t personally bothered me, but I noticed it has been a problem jke a lot of readers. Kirsten rated it liked it Jan 27, Very nice extras, and since multiple artists were at work, it jjoe great to see so many different interpretations of the same theme.

I work in the art industry as a 3D artist, and part of being in this industry is looking at pictures of naked bodies, artistically studying the human body to get the right contours, curves, shape — you get the idea. Overall, this graphic novel is a fun and sexy retelling of The Wizard of Oz.

Geek of the Week: Zenescope President, Joe Brusha
The one thing the story didn’t explain is who Dorothy really is and why she was able to wield the scepter. Consequently, we see evil ol’e Pan at the end of this volume planning his return to Neverland. Claiming that exploiting the female form is acceptable because DC and Marvel are also culprits is not only a childish way to view the issue, it is also ioe inappropriate moral equivalence.
