The author’s “Scorched Earth” is a sequel that finishes the war. Paperbackpages. He also wrote for the magazines Norddeutsche Rundschau and Der Spiegeland published some accounts of war stories for Der Landsera West German pulp magazine featuring stories predominantly set during World War II.

Author takes from the very start and builds the operation logically. The Defeat of the German 6th Army. Carell’s themes of anti-Communism also appealed to the U. This book may be dated, but I feel for the East Front grognard this account is one of the best from the German side.
One of the best books on this theatre of war ever written, but to be taken wih a grain of salt, possibly while reading in parallel a non nazi-German which is what Carell was, without any doubt historian.
The maps really helped in following the narrative. After the war, he became a successful author, mostly of revisionist books that romanticized and whitewashed the Wehrmacht’s role in World War II. If you’re interested in the Eastern Front, you will find this book interesting, but Carell is not a reliable historian–this is a sanitized and artful piece of revisionist history.
But what compelled the average German soldier to fight so tenaciously in a foreign land for an immoral cause despite hunger, cold, and shortages of clothing, supplies and ammunition? This book is in my top 10 of East Front histories.

Carell brings forward not alone in that the theory that Barbrossa was a pre-emptive attack to avoid the Soviet one which was undoubtly coming. I would think most people interested in the war on the Eastern Front and don’t mind the Omves bias would enjoy and learn from this book and is highly recommended.
Those who are against us will scream and talk of a hunt on humans, and will pajl to use terror propaganda to increase feelings against us in neutral states.

There is coverage on Stalin, Hitler, Manstein, Guderian, Model and many others but to a lesser degree. It captures the feeling of being there like no other book has.
Yes, it is written from the German point of view, but there is little to find from pakl Soviet point of view for the English reader, because so little of it has been translated from Russian. This is an interesting, complex work of history. I would think mobes people interested in the war on the Eastern Front and don’t mind the German bias would enjoy and learn from this book and is highly recommended.
