Maria Borsotti has never thought much of Kieran, but she decides to take pity on him and help him out with his project. And I don’t think a whole lot of people think to pick up this book after reading the series. Major fans of the series may have already heard Westerfeld’s entertaining anecdote about coming up with the concept for the Uglies books, but it’s repeated here. I checked this series out of the library. Trivia About Bogus to Bubbly: Celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Newbery Honor—winning survival novel Hatchet with a pocket-sized edition perfect for travelers to take along on their own adventures. He So far, I’ve enjoyed hearing the real-life story that inspired Westerfeld’s idea for the novel, but I could have, had I searched it out, found that on the internet. He’s an author, not a scientist, and he does a pretty darn good job at making the science-y bits believable and realistic.
The one thing that makes sense is the weird fetishizing of Japan and Japanese culture the honorifics, the whole setting of Extras in Japan –apparently this was done because Scott Westerfeld is a weeaboo who was learning Japanese at the time of writing.
Sometimes, when a book series gets really popular, writers will try to cash in by writing unauthorized guides to the story or books about the “science” behind popular bogue titles.
