Wuorinen was appointed to an instructorship at Columbia in and composituon to assistant professor inthe year he received an Ingram Merrill Foundation grant; during this period, he held visiting lectureships or wuorinenn at the New England Conservatory —71Princeton University —71the University of Iowaand the University of South Florida Wuorinen has been described as totally committed to twelve-tone composition,  with Schoenberglate Stravinskyand Babbitt as primary influences.
