Ray’s sister Martha and her family give Livvy new insight into the lives of people in rural America. Unfortunately, the crime occurs only in the last 30 pages of the book and was a big let-down in the intrigue howaed. Livvy could have never imagined that her life would take a course that was so distant from the dream she had for herself—her hopes to become an archeologist, to lead a cloistered yet fulfilling life.
Books by Ann Howard Creel. Seriously, though – did she even TRY to get ahold of her Edward lover? A visit by her sister brings sharp contrast between the life Livvy came from and the life she is living now, but it is also apparent how much Livvy has changed her view dasy her surroundings.
It’s not an exciting book, but a good book that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.
Beautifully written and filled with memorable characters, Creel’s novel is a powerful exploration of the nature hpward trust and love. The same story elements—character, plot, setting, style, voice, etc.
I must say, there were a couple sexy scenes, just so I said I warned you! She currently lives in Paris, Kentucky. He has long been lonely out there on his farm, and he welcomes Livvy with open arms.
The movie follows the book but takes some liberties. Ray is very shy and dayx in his ways, and Livvy feels stifled by the isolated community. The story was artfully and thoughtfully created and I ended up loving these wonderfully human characters with all their brilliance and flaws. I especially loved the characters. It’s set in ‘s Colorado farming country, and Livvy is forced into uoward arranged marriage by her strict father when she becomes pregnant ordihary of wedlock. I though it interesting that she was upset at being lied to and deceived, and yet had comp Well, I’d say I like this book since I finished it in one day. There is also a secondary story between Olivia and two Japanese sisters she meets. I was reminded of the Spanish word for pregnant, embarazadameaning embarrassed. I enjoyed it, but the narrator, Justine Eyre, wasn’t my favorite.
You have said that the novel was inspired, in part, by an actual event that occurred in a Nazi POW camp. How does Creel make them human? I think it was because she was surrounded by uncommonly good and kind people, whose words and actions brought me to tears several times.

The Best Books of The writing is very simple and direct, but drew me in. Precluded from contributing anything useful to the running of the farm, whose harvests are cultivated in part by labor from the local internment camp, Olivia takes long solitary walks. I was disappointed because I thought the Japanese internment camp would be more prominently dasy, but the ceeel focus was on the protagonist’s love life.
And it is all because of one small mistake with a handsome soldier, that resulted in her becoming pregnant, something that her Pastor father cannot live with or forgive. Love between a husband and wife is not just about physical attraction, butterflies in the stomach, etc, that is portrayed in the movies.
Having said that, I, like Livvy in the end, wouldn’t change a thing which is probably why this book touched me so much. View all 3 comments. She befriends two sisters from a nearby Japanese internment camp, and their friendships helps pass ahn days, as well as her amateur archaeological discoveries on the farm.
It was nicely written. We are experiencing technical difficulties. At first, Livvy feels almost as though she is in exile as she struggles to come to terms with her feelings of loneliness.
